Sharings for YYP 2008 Conference

Below are some of the extracts of the saints sharings for the YYP 2008 Conference:

Saved 2 Served

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

- Hebrews 9:14

The YYPC2008 not only benefited me but it had an impact on me. The theme of the conference was Saved to Serve. It meant that we were meant to serve God after he saved us. I learnt many things from this conference.

Here are some of the many things that I learnt

- We belong to Him; therefore it is only right to serve Him.

- Only those with a poor and concrete heart, tremble at God’s word can serve God.

- God loves us and gives us eternal life. To serve God is our eternal job.

- Service is not an option once Christ saved us

- Service does not just means serving in the church, it also includes being a good testimony to everybody be it at work, in school or anywhere else, and not just on Saturdays or Sundays

- Service also includes spreading the word of God (I am glad to say for this aspect I have tried to preach the word of God to all my non-Christians friends. On some occasions, I succeeded, on some occasions; I met with some difficulties because there are many hardcore anti-Christ out there that will find ways and means to argue that God is not real. Sad to say of all places to encounter these hardcore anti-Christ, I encounter them in my school. AND my school is supposed to be a Christian school. Anyways, I shall not give up because the Lord has NEVER given up on me.)

- Service also means that in all things we do, we must do it in honor of the Lord, and not for men.

- Christ is the most important thing in our lives. Put Christ first in whatever we do and all things will fall into place perfectly for you.

- For God has loved us, saved us, sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for us, it is only rightful for us to serve him, love him and honor him.

JESUS FOREVER.
A little sad that nobody organized any games for this conf, however I still had lots of fun. On Tues, James, another guy(sorry I dunno your name) and I went to united square for some coffee and ice cream. Chatted about lots of stuff that you dun want to know. Before that, I also went with Kow, Sam, Ee Shan and John to US to makan. I tried the honey chicken from cold storage, which was kinda nice… To top it all up, my DAD visited me at night after supper; it was really very unexpected of him to do that. THANKS DAD, you are the best. He should have called me first to inform me that he was coming coz he bought me a mac meal, but I was a little full coz I eaten 2 pratas for supper. But anyways, the thought is appreciated. Overall, I enjoyed myself for this conf and I thank God for it.

im feeling pretty overwhelmed by a mix of emotions right now.

church conf, from 1-4june was rather thought-provoking and reflective, i thought. a lot of things the brothers shared made me think about myself, my living, about service. the message was pretty weighty to me. im really not prepared for the Lord’s coming. there’s just so much that i need to change, so many people that i need to tell about the true and living God. so hello everyone out there, there’s a true and living God who’s waiting for you to accept Him. He’s just a prayer away. All you need to do is pray and in His time and in His own marvellous ways, He’ll help you, answer your prayer, change you. Just Believe and you’ll know He’s REAL.

3 phrases which impressed on me rather strongly during the conf:
1. if we place God first, everything else will fall into place
2. we are all christians who happen to be students
3. if we really know who God is, we will feel excited and honoured to serve Him

this conference was very different from the rest of the conferences ive attended. firstly, it’s held in our homeground, the meeting hall itself instead of in a resort probably in malaysia. secondly, there werent any games during activities, it was super message-based. thirdly, i actually paid almost full attention during all the meetings. and this year, we were super guai, which i wont elaborate how.

yesterday even though they didnt organise any game-related activities, it was still pretty fun. the skit by dawn’s group was really funny. it was on the sequel to the prodigal’s son skit which we acted out during last year’s yyp conference. phototaking after that and then it was stoning time. everyone was so bored. then yihan, bokhwee and christina started playing those reflex, concentration game. started with macdonalds, then the matthew mark luke john game, followed by a-e-i-o-u, and a failed follow the leader game, afterwhich was the animal action game. it was so funny. the matthew mark luke john game was spiced up with hwee nee’s eagerness to rise from sinner6 to matthew (the highest rank) and the refusal of everyone to let her rise up. the a-e-i-o-u game was, i think, the funniest. y’know honestly, i never thought they would play these kind of games especially the a-e-i-o-u game. they seem too old for these kind of games. hahah. even i havent played it for yearsssss. christina was the ultimate. she can really really make you laugh like crap. my jaws were so sore from trying not to burst out laughing after the game. all in all, it was really a good time of laughter and fun. they’re such funny and nice people.

Am back, and it’s time for the annual conference post again(:

Found the conference very different from all the previous conferences, perhaps mainly because it was held in church. It was probably a greater challenge to keep away from the world at your doorstep d: The lack of activities/games, increased meetings and rest time were also a bit strange to adapt to. But God was still faithful(:

Mostly every year I really look forward to the conference to renew myself in the Lord and remind myself to walk closer to Him again, but this year is likely the year in which I’ve drifted from Him the furthest, so much so that at a certain point in time I found that I just couldn’t pray anymore. This time, the theme of Saved to Serve really reminded me of the importance of our relationship with God, even though initially I didn’t see the full picture, that true service is being by the Master’s side and doing his will, not just playing the piano for Him on Saturdays and Sundays. I never noticed how relevant the theme is to us, how much the Lord tells us that He wants us to serve Him in His Word -

Thus says the LORD: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me. (Exodus 8:1)

Which is repeated time and again through the whole book of Exodus. One of the things which really impacted me was Bro Say Kin’s example of the Israelites journey out of Egypt, because truly though we are now in the modern age we are just like them. God did everything for their salvation, from the time in Egypt to the Passover to the Red Sea to providing manna in the Wilderness; similarly God did everything for our salvation! And yet what we are doing is exactly what the Israelites did – complaining, returning to what

we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles – when we walked in lewness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. (1 Peter 4:3)

worshipping worldly idols, submitting to the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. (1 John 2:16) Mostly, forgetting that what the Lord said – let My peope go, that they may serve Me.

The demonstration of fitting the small marbles and the sole big marble into the cup also struck me greatly – if we place God first, everything else will fall into place. That’s what I really need to learn.

Thank God for the sisters and our impromptu night prayer together in the middle of the corridor/in Sis Ee Han’s room(: as well as the hymn singing in our room on the last night, which we cut short!! While the brothers were downstairs in the second floor extension singing and fellowshipping! D: D:

Overall, what touched me the most, was that night when we sang the medley of two Chinese hymns and eventually all got down on our knees to pray. At that moment in time I believe the whole church could feel the presence of the Lord(: it really touched me to tears, and at that point I knew it was time to reconsecrate my life again. After all, it is our reasonable service. (Romans 12:1-2)

Youth and Young People’s Conference 2008

Saved to Serve

Approved in Every Way
(Lyrics: Ng Wah Lok, Voon Yuen Woh, Music: Ng Wah Lok)

I want to be Your servant Lord
To serve You each and every day
I want to give my best to You
Approved in every way.

Chorus
Make my life a living sacrifice
The way you want me to be
To serve You with all my heart
Whatever the cost to me
Take me break me, mould me Lord
As the potter shapes the clay
Pleasing You in all I do
Approved in every way.

I’ll stand before Your righteous throne
To hear “Thou good and faithful one”
“Well done!” from the Master’s lips
Approved in every way.
